A good film should meet several criteria in order to make it enjoyable for viewers. The film first of all should have an exciting or at least interesting plot. Even the best actors and actresses on the world could not make a difference if the plot is dull. Yet, the film could actually get away with average acting skills if the theme is overflowing. An example to such a film was the "Butterfly Effect". Even Ashton Kutcher's average performance could not influence the overall good quality of the film. The film was based on a surprisingly fresh and original idea that was well elaborated in the script and dominated every aspect of the film. Furthermore the film should serve the purpose of pleasing the eyes. This could be achieved by selecting attractive locations and scenery, peculiar sets, creating a specially designed atmosphere and customs. A creative film should be able to make its viewers think! It should be able to project a message that could form the basis to a thoughtful discussion. The recent screening of the film, "The Squid and the Whale" opened doors to hot intellectual debates among several online chat forum members globally. The film had a clear message of how a ruined marriage and then a painful divorce could physically and mentally influence the children involved. The family's motives and actions were all revealed from different angles. Although the film failed to present other sides of the argument, it achieved its goal. The film evoked important thoughts and questions on the very institution of marriage and on the volatile effects of a crumbling relationship.
